Hugo de Sancto Victore, Dialoges super Genesim
[and] In Salomonis Ecclesiasten homilia.
Manuscript, France, ca.1160 (BPH 19)

According to Hugo (he died in 1141), named, together with his pupil Richard, after the famous Parisian school and abbey, true contemplation and mystical union are reserved for the hereafter, while the highest attainable goal here on earth consists of an intense rejoicing in anticipation. In Salomonis Ecclesiasten includes an extensive manual of contemplation; ever since Origen, the books of Solomon were considered as progressive sources of wisdom.
