Book of Hours [Master of the Haarlem Bible].
Manuscript, Haarlem, after 1470 (BPH 134)

More than 25 manuscripts are now known of this master, this manuscript being the only one to offer a clue towards its date. At the end of the Penitential psalms three dated obituaries (in red) can be found: those of the husband and parents of the woman who commissioned this work. Remarkably enough, they were treated by the scribe as running text (and not added at a later date). On the right page the beginning of the Office of the Dead with in the initial two souls in Purgatory; in one of the margins we find Job on the dunghill.
