Dante, Divina commedia.
Foligno, Johann Neumeister and Evangelista Angelini, 1472

First edition. Marsilio Ficino was the first to classify Dante as a Platonist, who portrayed an ascent of the soul in his allegorical pilgrimage through hell, purgatory and paradise. Cristoforo Landino , the famous commentator of Dante's work, attributed the greatness of the Divina Commedia to Dante's divine inspiration, and held him up as an example of the divine furor of poets attested to by Hermes.
