Book of Hours. Manuscript, Delft, ca.1475 (BPH 6)

The animal figures in the border decorations surrounding the miniatures often have a symbolic meaning connected with the main scene: thus the lamb of God occurs in the margin of the scene of the Crucifixion and a unicorn, symbolizing the Incarnation of Christ through the Virgin Mary, adorns one of the the margins of the scene of the Last Judgement.

One of the former owners was Sir Alfred Chester Beatty.
