Donum Dei, a work describing the stages of the Magnum Opus in twelve allegorical illustrations, is one of the best known alchemical works of the late Middle Ages. It is attributed to George Aurach, who was thought to have produced the original Donum Dei in the second half of the 15th century. The iconography of the illustrated flasks representing the various stages of the Great Work was to inspire later alchemical works, most notably Splendor solis.
