This allegorical epic contains the account of a Neoplatonic pilgrimage of the soul, derived from the Poliphilus, and based on the French translation of 1546. The illustrations are by the Dutch humanist and engraver Dirck Volckertsz Coornhert.

When the engravings in this copy were coloured in, some adaptations and corrections were introduced: in the plate shown an originally left-handed lute player has become right-handed.
