Title information

This book, which is divided into two parts, highlights a chapter in the history of modern spirituality. Part I describes the meeting, in 1954, between Antonin Gadal (1877-1962), the man who revived interest in the history of the Cathar movement in Southern France, and Jan van Rijckenborgh (1896-1968) and Catharose de Petri (1902-1990), the two leaders of the Dutch Rosicrucian movement Lectorium Rosicrucianum which was founded in the first half of the 20th century. These modern heirs of the Cathar and Rosicrucian movements experienced their encounter as the moment when the gnostic impulse could once again become manifest. They referred to a prophecy, made when the medieval Cathar Brotherhood at Castle Montségur in Southern France was destroyed on 16 March 1244: 'Yet after seven hunderd years the laurel will blossom anew'. Part II contains an anthology of previously unpublished texts by Gadal, being the reflection of his own autonomous study and interpretation of the sources of the Gnosis and early Christianity, of which Catharism is a pure exponent. His texts are furthermore informed by a deep-felt inner experience of man's path towards perfection.
